Who are JUTE Young Ambassadors?

Young Ambassadors gain special insights into the workings of a professional theatre company and the creation of theatre. Young Ambassadors get a connection to the industry through JUTE’s Artistic Director/CEO Suellen Maunder. They also introduce the work of JUTE Theatre Company to their networks. You don’t need to have theatre career ambitions to be a JUTE Young Ambassador, what you do need is a passion for theatre with the ability to embrace the JUTE brand and spread that enthusiasm into the community.

The program is open to a limited group of 15 to 30yr olds from Far North Queensland. We are looking for a diverse mix of Gen Y’s, ideally:
−    17 to 30yr olds out there in the work force from a range of industries
−    JCU or TAFE students from a range of disciplines
−    High school students 15yrs or older (limited places)

What do JUTE Young Ambassadors receive?

−    2 x Young Ambassador skills workshops (covering interview or audition skills) & industry discussions with Artistic Director/CEO Suellen Maunder
−    VIP double pass to all JUTE production opening nights
−    Unlimited access to JUTE’s season - you can attend any performance for free as many times as you like!
−    Exclusive invitation and recognition at JUTE Season Launch Party
−    Invitation to select rehearsals, designer presentations, social events & media calls
−    Opportunity for work experience / internship
−    Invitation to the JUTE National Regional Theatre Makers & Playwrights Conference
−    Connections to other industry resources (i.e. Arts Nexus, Youth Arts Queensland)

What a PAST Young Ambassador has to say....

“From my time as a Young Ambassador I now know a lot more about how a professional theatre company runs. I was amazed with how much really goes on behind the scenes to make a production and it was great to see professional actors and directors in action during rehearsals! I also found it valuable getting to know the JUTE staff and learning about the business side of theatre and getting to know the other Ambassadors, because it’s really nice to meet other young people with similar interests in Cairns" (Kirsten Lovett, 2011 JUTE Young Ambassador)

What JUTE expects in return from our Young Ambassadors

Selection into the Young Ambassadors program is competitive; as such we want to make sure our selected Ambassadors fully utilize this unique opportunity. We ask for a commitment to attend all key Young Ambassador invited events (opening nights and workshops), along with a commitment to volunteer a minimum 10hrs throughout the year for Front Of House duties. We ask all applicants to carefully consider if they have the capacity to commit before applying.
