JUTE Indie Season: KurandaCOOTS present ‘The Beast’

15 November 2011 - 19 November 2011

JUTE Theatre Company Indie Season: Supported by the Centre of Contemporary Arts

The Beast is a magical odyssey where protagonist Arrow embarks on a mythical journey to slay the Beast, encountering freaks, apparitions and perils along her way.

The production combines mythical story telling with a smoky, moody, contemporary music score composed by local "deep folk" singer/ songwriter Trish Molloy and accompanied by three other accomplished local musicians. Poet and hip hop artist Zach Barclay brings his magic with words to the production, by narrating the story with his original mix of slam poetry. The Kurandacoots are working with acclaimed director Willem Brugan who brings decades of theatre experience into the fold. The remainder of the troupe consists of 6 Kuranda based circus performers who provide a visual feast of colour, comedy and physical feats, making the Beast an event not to be missed.

The Kurandacoots offer something different from other circus theatre shows which people may have experienced because the musicians and performers are equal parties within the show- the music is written for the performers and the performers respond to the music- creating a mad love affair on stage between sensual sounds and the visually spectacular.
