For 12 years JUTE Theatre Company has run the successful Enter Stage Write, script development program.
In 2011, JUTE added the Director Development Program to its development suite and is currently working with TAFE to deliver our program with David Fenton through the TAFE system. It is intended that this TAFE course will be offered by the middle of 2012.
In 2012, inspired by JUTE’s Creative Advisory Panel, JUTE will creative the Actor Development Program. The Actor Development Program will be a pilot program in 2012 and the initial participants will assist JUTE to tailor the program throughout the year.
Actors need to keep their skills honed and need to engage with Directors. Directors need scripts to work on with actors, and Playwrights need to see and hear their work directed and performed.
These three disciplines rely on each other to get new work on the stage – they cannot exist in isolation.
The
2012 Director Development Program will be a combination of the TAFE delivered program (more about this later) and a connection into the Enter Stage Write program and the Actor Development Program, giving directors access to scripts and actors.
JUTE is offering a total of 12 places for directors. The program will provide the following:
- TAFE delivered program (this is still in development and will be made available mid 2012)
- 3 x workshops in dramaturgical structures for analysis of text (delivered through the Enter Stage Write program)
- 1 x week of intensive work with actors in the Director Development Program under the guidance of David Fenton
- Direction of play readings for the JUTE Conference and Enter Stage Write readings.
