Welcome to the 2008 JUTE Theatre season. In our increasingly isolated lifestyles, theatre offers the opportunity for you, our audience, to share a unique coming together, to share in the stories unfolding on the stage. For your entertainment we present six new Australian stories and a retelling of one of the Western worlds classics. These stories are full of surprises, love and laughter as well as throwing a spotlight on the deeper questions surrounding the human condition and the world we inhabit. The inspiration for these plays come from as far afield as ancient Greece, contemporary India, Darwin, Charters Towers, Ballarat, Hobart, Perth, Brisbane and of course Cairns. They spring from the imaginations of some award-winning playwrights and theatre makers across the country. In another first JUTE takes great delight in investing in and supporting the development of two local independent theatre producers through the Indie Season. The Indie Season is a new long-term initiative that will see the further growth of professional theatre in this region. The Theatre to the Edge Touring initiative continues to send our plays across Queensland and into the Northern Territory gathering new audiences for our locally produced work.
